The Motorola Droid was one of the most anxiously awaited gadget releases of 2009. With all of the smart phones on the market the Droid was one of the few that actually captured the interest of millions of people, allowing for the phone to sell out before it even hit the shelves. People who had not been satisfied with the iphone or the Blackberry and similar phones were turning to the Droid for another option.

Overall the Motorola Droid seems to be a great buy. The phone is appropriately sized, and is not all that different in size that many of the other phones on the market today. The phone features a touch screen as well as a standard QWERTY keyboard, which allows for it to be used easily when necessary. The keyboard slides out from under the touch screen, which if it is not cared for properly, could lead to some issues, but overall the phone is very stable and seems like it will open and close with ease as long as it is cared for properly. For those looking for a way to get around owning a Blackberry or iphone, the Motorola Droid may be just what they are looking for in capability, size, and technology offered.

You will really be startled when you touch the BlackBerry Storm for the very first time. This is the first touchscreen and keyboard free smart phone of Research in Motion (RIM). Nothing will happen to the screen even if you have used it several thousand times. In this phone, screen is the giant button and you have to punch it basically for each and every action. The defining feature of this phone is ClickThrough. The phone has got the impressive multi-touch UI. The phone has great sleek design to which it can be a fashion statement as well. Navigation is easily possible through the Transmissive TFT LCD with the size of 3.25 inches in height and with 480 x 360 pixel color display and the screen is light sensing. The phone comes along with integrated microphone and built-in speaker phone. Memory of the phone can be expanded. The phone weighs 5.5 ounces (around 155 grams). It supports MPEG4 H.263, WMV and H.264 video formats and WMA ProPlus, WMA, eAAC+, AAC, AAC+ and MP3 audio formats. It has screen lock, password protection, sleep mode, supports encryption AES or Tripe DES and offers optional support for MIME.

The Good:

Sleek design
Browsing is easier
Touchscreen is pretty good
OS performance is good

The Bad

There is no Wi-fi
Typing of messages is really hard
Clicking on anything is a 2 step process
Has immature firmware

It is clear from the phone itself that it is pretty gorgeous to look and to hold as it is designed and backed by RIM itself. The phone is paced up with various features and by seeing at first glance, it makes anybody be engaged with it. The one place most of the people are happy is the clickable screen. The considerable lagging and option of decent typing is the area which most of the power users are feeling paused about. The company has definitely tried to strike middle of the ground between the function and form, but unfortunately it has come up with short on both of them. For the internet users, not having the Wi-FI is another set back for the phone.

It is not big enough to truly be considered an alternative for your PC but neither is it sufficiently small enough to be a a portable laptop that you can easily travel around with.
The Motorola Q9M cell phone is…OK. The ‘M’ in Q9M is supposed to stand for ‘music’ but, quite honestly, this phone does nothing for my musical needs. I bought it thinking that it was the next best thing to IPhone…a cool smartphone that would allow me to listen to my music. If you just want a phone with a keyboard and don’t care about the extras..this phone’s for you. Otherwise I’d suggest staying away.

THE GOOD

Cool design.

Not a bad cost if you get it with renewal/new contract. I think mine was $70 with a mail in rebate.

Can keep tabs on your own file system with ‘File Manager’ (move files around, etc).

QWERTY keyboard.

Use MP3s as ringtones (but not all will work)

Bluetooth

THE BAD

The headphone jack at the top is not a 3.5mm (normal headphone) jack but instead is a headset jack (for talking into, not listening to music).

Although it has a Mini SD slot, there is barely any harddrive space for music/video storage.

Unless you have the newest version of Windows Mobile (I couldn’t ever get my phone to download it) text messages are not in conversation format…but in single text format. Annoying.

I’d try another phone if I were you. The Motorola Q9C is a little bit better (I got it from warranty when my Q9M broke) But then again, most people end up hating their phones after using them for long enough. No phone is perfect…with the IPhone making a possible exception.
