Overall the Inspiron 1501 is a good choice for users who want a lot of bang for they’re buck. It’s cheap, reliable, and sturdy, making it a perfect choice for beginning/intermediate notebook users who want to run a wide variety of programs.

Essentially aimed towards working professionals the Acer Travelmate 5330 is a slick notebook that also boasts reliability and consistency among its traits. Unlike other Acer notebooks the 5330 has a decent battery life of 2.5 hours and is light enough to carry around from office to office or appointment to appointment without being a burden. A 2 GHZ processor coupled with 1GB of RAM ensures that it is quick and will handle just about any office or home use activity without sacrificing resources. It also has a large 160 GB hard drive that provides more than adequate space for both documents and multimedia.

The Good

• Like many Acer’s it tends to overheat

The Acer Travelmate 5330 is a reliable and highly functional laptop that is geared towards the working professional. Its long battery life compared to other Acer’s means that it can be used without apprehension when you are called away from the office and have to work without a electrical socket. A highly recommended laptop for business use.

This is a replacement PC for the Gateway M285 that I got in 2006. I won’t go into details but I had a pretty terrible all around experience with the M285, especially towards the end of its life. Let me just say, the T5010 is nothing short of spectacular (so far).

THE GOOD

• Strong, metal hinge (Gateway M285′s hinge completely gave out after not a lot of time, leaving a floppy screen)
• Screen rotation goes both ways (thats what she said).
• Active digitizer;  senses the pen when it isnt touching the screen and recognizes right clicking and eraser end of the pen.
• Great design; looks very slick
• Heat-sensitive scroller for when in tablet mode
• USB ports are spread out
• VERY bright screen
   

THE BAD

• Terrible speakers
• Windows Vista Business (not it’s fault)
• When you switch into tablet mode you must manually rotate the computer to see the screen in the correct orientation
• Battery life is mediocre…but still decent
• Controls on the screen are right where your hand seems to want to rest when in tablet mode…makes for some interesting button pushes.

Overall a sweet buy and highly recommended. But make sure you have lots of RAM.
