I was recently lucky enough to get a brand-spankin-new Fujitsu T5010 Tablet PC. Here are the specs:
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz
- Microsoft Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- 13.3″ Screen with Active Digitizer
- 80GB Hard Drive
- DVD Burner
- 1.3 Pixel Webcam
- Etc
This is a replacement PC for the Gateway M285 that I got in 2006. I won’t go into details but I had a pretty terrible all around experience with the M285, especially towards the end of its life. Let me just say, the T5010 is nothing short of spectacular (so far).
THE GOOD
- Strong, metal hinge (Gateway M285’s hinge completely gave out after not a lot of time, leaving a floppy screen)
- Screen rotation goes both ways (thats what she said).
- Active digitizer; senses the pen when it isnt touching the screen and recognizes right clicking and eraser end of the pen.
- Great design; looks very slick
- Heat-sensitive scroller for when in tablet mode
- USB ports are spread out
- VERY bright screen
THE BAD
- Terrible speakers
- Windows Vista Business (not it’s fault)
- When you switch into tablet mode you must manually rotate the computer to see the screen in the correct orientation
- Battery life is mediocre…but still decent
- Controls on the screen are right where your hand seems to want to rest when in tablet mode…makes for some interesting button pushes.
Overall a sweet buy and highly recommended. But make sure you have lots of RAM.
