Touch tablets: where do they fit in our daily lives?

There’s been a lot of fuzz around touch tablets this year at CES. Every big manufacturer had at least a touch tablet (slate or convertible) presented as prototype or made an official announcement about something they’re working on. It’s amazing how everyone had the same trend on their minds, but what’s more amazing is that the trend was set by the first rumors that surfaced the web a few months ago saying that Apple is working on a revolutionary device, a type of tablet that wasn’t even introduced to the public but most certainly will be this January during one of Apple’s annual events.

But history is history and will stay this way. Future is the one thing that interests us most and in a few months we’ll see if the touch tablet digital trend catches on as this is not the first time tablets hit the market. They did it in convertible form a few years ago but had the big disadvantage of costing a few times more than a regular notebook plus lacked on software support to take advantage of the new input system (an analogy with Windows Mobile operating system comes to my mind now as this is one example of bad OS porting, whiteout adaptation to the new needs).

This year seems things will get straight for touch tablets as there was a big variety of sizes, functions, OSes and hardware platforms on display at CES. We will see for sure segmentation here. I’m betting on large tablets for home use (where you aren’t concerned about size) and smaller cheaper tablets for occasional browsing on the move.

If you like, tablets are something that falls right in between a big screen Smartphone (think iPhone for example) and a small netbook that’s not really comfortable to use on the road unless you have a place to sit and a laptop desk stand to put the gadget on. I believe that actual netbooks can be in danger because tablets cover the same functions netbooks have but at a slimmer footprint and are capable of serious multimedia (thanks to the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset), things that netbooks don’t do very well.

3-D TV

Few things seem to create as much disagreement as 3D Television. There are those who absolutely love it, there are those who absolutely hate it. Some believe it’s the inevitable logical progression of TV technology, while others don’t even understand its purpose. Many believe it is something that can bring exciting innovation in the field of entertainment, while many more feel like puking at the thought and sight of 3D TV.

Whatever side of the spectrum you stand on, prepare yourself to hear a whole lot of back and forth on this topic for the coming decade. Whether you like it or not, major TV manufactures have decided that this is a technology that people will want, so the 3D revolution has already started. 3D TV prices WILL be reduced to acceptable levels, global standards have and will be reached, and sooner or later a 3D TV will infiltrate your home and take you hostage.

3-D TV

The more interesting question to ponder over, is what sort of 3D media we will be able to enjoy over the coming years.

3D Movies: The arrival of Avatar and it’s complete domination of the box office has left little doubt as to the impact that a well produced 3D movie can have. Many movies are currently being developed to fill the 3D movie niche.

3D Channels: ESPN has just announced that in July, they will have a full 3D channel to show popular sporting events, starting with the world cup. A TV channel in Korea has already released the very first 3D channel. UK’s Sky has also pledged to have a 3D channel by this year. DirectTV has also announced that it will have a range of 3D channels in the coming year.

3D Gaming: The Sony Playstation 3 is already in place to deliver 3D gaming to your Sony 3D TV or any TV for that matter. Many games will be launched in the coming months to take advantage of this new technology.

3D Home recording: Camera’s that can record 3D content should not take too much time to develop as the technology is already there. If people can record their own 3D videos, then the interests for the 3-D TVs will also rise.

In summary, the arrival of the 3-D TV brings many new opportunities for all of the tech industry. Let’s hope that the TV manufacturers get their act together, so all this 3D goodness reaches us soon.

Pink Laptops Merge Function and Fashion

Manufacturers of laptop computers have combined fashion with function by introducing colored laptops to the marketplace. Of the many different colors released, one of the most popular has been pink, which comes as no surprise. After all, pink is a color commonly associated with fun and excitement, and it’s also one of the top colors in the world of fashion and design. Pink laptops allow the consumer free reign to express themselves with their computers while also satisfying their need to stay connected to their important documents and to the outside world via the Internet.

In terms of portability, laptops cannot be beat for their ability to be easily transported. In fact, most laptops weigh in at about 4-8 pounds, which allows for easy carry to common and uncommon locations alike. Due to the widespread availability of wireless networks, laptop computers owners can communicate readily with the outside world. What could be better than having all of these capabilities contained within a shiny pink case? It’s becoming commonplace for people to accessorize with their electronic devices including cell phones, digital cameras and laptop computers. The reason for this is obvious, as there is simply no better method of making a statement than to flaunt the latest and greatest of what technology has to offer.

Although pink laptop computers are readily available, there are still some important considerations when it comes to purchasing one for yourself. Many people start out the buying process by asking how to find the best laptop on the marketplace, though the answer to such a question really depends on the intended use. The phrase “one man’s trash in another man’s treasure” definitely applies here, since people desire different features and levels of performance. When selecting a laptop it’s important to consider items like the overall weight of the computer, it’s potential battery life, available processor options and, of course, the price. Another common question is what brand to purchase, though this isn’t as important as it might seem. Sure, there are certain brands that have very loyal followings, though by and large, most of the major computer manufacturers are a safe bet when it comes to quality and performance. Perhaps the most effective process is to simply check out some of the online reviews, which are generally very good for uncovering the pluses and minuses of a particular computer. Because these reviews aren’t necessarily written by the manufacturer, they tend to be fairly unbiased and honest.

Ultimately, choosing a laptop computer will afford you with a level of convenience that you never thought possible. No longer will you be held back by cables and a bulky computer tower. Laptops can also be purchased in a variety of colors that allow you to broadcast your personality to the world. By taking the buying tips above into consideration, you will be better equipped to secure the computer of your dreams.
