Knoppix is a great (and free) Linux operating system which you can run from a CD , DVD, or even a USB drive. Because of this, Knoppix is useful for backing up files on a hard drive that has crashed and cannot boot.
The system requirements are quite low because Knoppix is very light weight. As long as you have the following you should be able to run it.
- Intel processor (or Intel compatible)
- 64MB RAM
- SVGA graphics card
- USB Mouse
- CD-ROM or DVD drive
